Resources for Students
The following resources will help you pinpoint
your interests and match these interests with specific career programs
and university-parallel tracks available at Jefferson State.
The Strong Interest
Inventory is an instrument designed to help students increase
their awareness of their general interests and to alert them of possible
activities and work that match those interests. The test also allows
individuals to compare their interests to those of people already employed
in a variety of occupations. Students should contact The One Stop Center
in Lurleen Wallace Hall for more information.
The Occupational
Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career
information that is revised every two years, and describes what workers do
on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed,
earnings, and expected job prospects in a wide range of occupations.
Students may access the Occupational Outlook Handbook at
http://www.bls.gov/oco/
The Career Key
is a professional counseling inventory and is offered free to the
public; a career interest measure is taken by an individual and instantly
scored on the Internet; the results of a career inventory are linked to
the Occupational Outlook Handbook -- the most accurate source of
occupational information. Students may access The Career Key at
http://www.careerkey.org/
Transfer Check Sheets are available on our website at
www.jeffstateonline.com. Click Student Info/Transfer Check sheets for
a listing of program check sheets for each of the STARS articulated
programs. Check sheets parallel each STARS articulation guide and provide
students with a one-page document to keep track of their progress toward a
degree at Jefferson State. Keep in mind that the check sheets do not
replace the need to print an articulation guide and the transfer
institution’s Area V requirements. (See Appendix II.)
STARS System is a web-based database
that allows students, advisors, faculty, and administrators to obtain the
most current AGSC approved transfer information. Prospective transfer
students can log onto the STARS system and obtain a transfer guide for
their chosen major that outlines the coursework needed in the first 60-64
semester hours of their degree program. If a student follows the guide and
does not change majors, he/she should receive a degree credit upon transfer
to the receiving institution. You may access the STARS system from our
website at
www.jeffstateonline.com.
