Jefferson State is Keeping Alabama Beautiful

In the statewide spirit of “Keeping Alabama Beautiful,” the Alabama Community College System is honored to join the state’s bicentennial efforts by leading a new initiative called Clean Home Alabama. We hope you will join us in this statewide effort to promote the continuous beautification of the state’s natural landscapes. Jefferson State is pleased to announce four opportunities to Clean Home Alabama in the four counties we serve.  Please view the options below and for more information, contact Damita Hill, dwhill@jeffersonstate.edu or Libby Holmes, lholmes@jeffersonstate.edu.

    Little Cahaba River Litter Getters
    9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Join JSCC, in partnership with the Cahaba River Society, as students, employees, and community members canoe the Cahaba and do our part to Clean Home Alabama! Biodiversity found in the Cahaba River is recognized worldwide as exceptional, therefore the Cahaba is a treasure well worth stewardship efforts! There is limited parking, so a JSCC van will carpool students from a designated site.

    • Please wear comfortable clothing.
    • Closed-toe shoes are a must. Sneakers with wool socks are the best choice.
    • No open sandals, flip-flops, etc. and waterproof rain boots are NOT recommended.
    • We will get out of the canoes occasionally to gather trash, so plan on wet feet.
    • Please bring adequate drinking water. Reusable water containers are strongly recommended, much of the trash we will pick up will be single-use plastic bottles.
