Jefferson State’s Associate Dean of Transfer and General Studies at the Shelby-Hoover Campus, Dr. Liesl W. Harris, will spend part of her summer studying at Yad Vashem, the International Holocaust Center in Jerusalem.
The nineteen-day seminar from July 1 – July 19 will require a tremendous amount of physical, intellectual, and emotional stamina. Participants will learn from the preeminent scholars in the various fields of Holocaust scholarship, research, and pedagogy. The format of this historically based seminar will consist of three to five lectures daily, group discussions, films, and Holocaust survivor testimonies.
This seminar offers participants a unique opportunity to increase their knowledge, hone their skills as an educator, and see the Israel that is home to the Jewish people in an international environment.
Dr. Harris, one of Jefferson State’s award-winning Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Advisors, will study with scholars from around the world. This opportunity comes through generous funding from the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
