The Jefferson Campus’ renovation progress will be posted here. Check back for updates.

Newly Refurbished Biology Labs
Culinary Program - Upgraded Kitchen & Dining Facilities. Many needed renovations have taken place in the Hospitality/Culinary area. A new professional Bose music system has been installed by a donation made by Mrs. George Little in memory of her late husband George Little who the formal dining area has been named after. As of 2003, 1500 square feet to the kitchen area was added dedicated to Bakery and Pastry production. Also completed were extensive changes to flooring, lighting, furniture and blinds in the dining room. The dining area is elegant, warm and inviting now. Classroom chairs were replaced and the entire area was painted. These changes have been very important to the successful growth of our program. Alagasco through special pricing helped replace old home use stoves with updated stoves that are better suited for the professional teaching environment. A considerable amount of funding was spent towards the purchase of smallwares and tools needed to deliver instruction properly. These changes and improvements made to the Hospitality/Culinary Program have made all the difference in the world to our students and faculty. The environment is clean, bright and gives the students and staff a sense of pride. The needs of our students, college and the community at large are better met with these renovations.
Athletics - New Bleachers & Scoreboard
New home for the Center for College, Community & Corporate Education in George Wallace Hall. College Career, Corporate Education Center has been remodeled to include a conference room, kitchen, three new staff offices plus reception area. All of this area was remodeled which included erecting walls, putting in heat and air vents, re-wiring, painting, carpet and furniture. There were existing staff offices that were re-furbished with new carpet and furniture. We have created five new classrooms on the second floor including computer classrooms.
Governmental Relations & Grants Management Facilities Upgrade
Planned Senior Center in LeRoy Brown Gym. The Leroy Brown Gymnasium recently has undergone two major renovations. There is a Fitness Center for Senior Adults located on the third floor of the gym. A new weight room has been added to the fourth floor of the gym and new additional equipment has been purchased for use by our senior adults, students, and faculty and our community. A fitness area has been added in place of the old bleachers on the third floor of the gym. The bleachers were unusable and their removal allowed the development of an aerobic area along with an area for treadmills, fitness bicycles and small weights. This area is in constant use by not only the senior adults but by the community, faculty, staff, and students.

The Child Development Program area located in the Harold Martin Building has undergone partial repainting that includes the common area and most offices off the common area. New Furniture for the common area, conference room and administrative assistant has been purchased.

Bethune Deramus is currently undergoing renovation of classrooms for use by Liberal Arts classes. Rooms 200 and 208 have been the focus of the work. These two large rooms were restructured to be three classrooms, suitable to hold the 45 students that frequently enroll in Liberal Arts classes (such as Psychology and History). In addition to these new rooms being larger than the ones currently in use by the department, equipment is being installed in each room to provide access to the use of technology in instruction. Each room will be equipped with a computer, internet access, whiteboards, projector, projector screen, mounted television, and DVD/VCR combo. This equipment list was requested by current Liberal Arts instructors, who tailored their requests to their specific classroom needs. Within the three new classrooms, one room (BD 200) will be designated as the “Psychology” classroom, meaning that most Psychology classes will be scheduled to meet in this room. In addition to the equipment listed above, this room will have models and diagrams of the brain, nervous system, and nerve endings to assist in the teaching of these topics. These items were specifically chosen by our Psychology faculty. Another of the rooms (BD 210) will be designated as the “History” classroom. Many History classes (and some Religion classes) will be scheduled to meet in this room. The History faculty was approved to have this room equipped with new maps covering both American History and Western Civilization. These are exciting and much needed improvements to the teaching environment in Bethune Deramus. Currently, classes with 45 students literally fill the classrooms to over-flowing! However, the larger rooms that are being made available for Liberal Arts’ use will allow for a more comfortable, attractive, and suitable learning environment. Our faculty members are also very excited about the equipment being placed in these classrooms. Having computers with internet access in the classrooms provides many new opportunities for instruction, including allowing instructors to access items posted to their faculty web pages in class, demonstrating research techniques, and providing access to numerous visual and aural aids.
