Part-Time Tuition
Scholarships
The Junior League of Birmingham is offering scholarships to help non-traditional
female students attend Jefferson State during the spring semester 2001. The scholarships
are provided to assist women who are trapped in unfortunate situations by personal and
family circumstances. Recipients must
demonstrate academic capability, financial need, and personal commitment. Mia Parnell, a single mother with two children, received one of the scholarships for fall semester. Mia was a stay-at-home mother when she was diagnosed with cancer. Between 1997 and 1999, Mia had surgery, completed treatment, separated from her spouse, and began a new life raising her two young children. Now she is employed and attending Jefferson State using her Junior League scholarship. Mias grade point average is 3.38. Scholarship Criteria: 1. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.25 2. Must have completed at least 6 hours at Jefferson State during fall semester 2000 3. Must be a US citizen 4. Must show financial need 5. Must be unemployed, underemployed, head of household, or single parent Application Process: 1. Pick up an application packet from FSC 301 (NEW OPTIONS Office) on the Northeast Campus or RSH 104 on the Shelby-Hoover Campus on (or after): November 1, 2000. 2. Turn in the completed application packet, including the application form, two recommendations, and a student copy of your grade transcript and a copy of your financial aid award (if applicable) to FSC 301 or RSH 104 by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2000.
