Pell City High School senior Sawyer Stice confirmed he will play golf on the collegiate level by signing a scholarship at Jefferson State Community College.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, Stice, joined by his friends and family at the Center for Education and Performing Arts in Pell City (CEPA), signed a scholarship to attend Jefferson State and play for the school’s Golf Team.

“This is the best time we can have as coaches, watching students move on to the next level,” Pell City High Golf Coach Wayne Lee said. “He’s going to have to work hard and keep his grades up, but I’m sure that won’t be an issue with Sawyer. Everyone here knows Jefferson State is getting a good one.”

Jefferson State added its men’s and women’s golf programs during the 2016-17 academic year. The teams began competition last fall and will compete in the Alabama Community College Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association.

“We’re excited to have him,” Jefferson State Golf Coach Cammie Hallmark said. “We think he’ll be a tremendous addition to the team both in academics and athletics.”

Sawyer was joined by his parents, John and Sharon Stice, as well as his brothers, Mark and Grant Stice, for the scholarship signing. He will begin school at Jefferson State in Fall 2017.
