Quality Enhancement Plan

Quality Enhancement Plan

What is the QEP?

The vision of Jefferson State Community College is to be recognized as the most effective community college in the state of Alabama by providing individuals with knowledge and skills needed to function in a technologically demanding society. We intend to put students’ needs first by being responsive and innovative, as well as being a catalyst for lifelong learning through the use of a variety of delivery systems. The QEP assists us in accomplishing this vision.

QEP is an acronym for Quality Enhancement Plan. As part of Jefferson State’s reaffirmation process, the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) asks the college to actively research and implement new and innovative programs at Jefferson State that will improve the overall student learning experience and student success. The QEP is the vehicle through which these new programs are born and executed.

ORI 110: Pioneer Pathways

The college community chose as the QEP to design a new freshman orientation course, ORI 110: Pioneer Pathways. The primary goals of the Pioneer Pathways QEP are to increase student learning and student success by:

  • Helping students identify college and career goals
  • Assisting them in creating a plan to achieve those goals
  • Providing students the support they need to stay on track
  • and ensuring students are learning along the way.

These goals will be accomplished through thoughtfully-designed projects and assignments in the ORI 110 course.
