Looking for a career with a future?

Think about Jefferson State’s Radiologic Technology Program.

Our RAD program was one of the first of its kind in an Alabama Junior College. Prior to the establishment of junior college programs, students were trained by hospitals and received no academic credit. Students now complete prerequisite general education courses before being admitted into the RAD program. Upon admission into the program, students are involved in clinical activities at the main campus and area hospitals to gain further "hands on" knowledge. Most clinical rotations are from 7:00 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Graduates of Jefferson State's program are awarded an associate in applied science degree and are eligible to request to write the National Registry Exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists to become a registered Radiologic Technologist.

Once registered as a radiographer, you will be eligible for employment in hospitals, emergency clinics or doctor's offices. Later, if you decide to continue your education, you can apply many credits earned in the associate degree program at Jefferson State toward a four year degree at the University of Alabama, Birmingham or other Universities.

Program Goals

  1.  The program mission can be met by the achievement of the following goals:

  2. Prepare students to demonstrate clinical competence and provide patient care as entry level radiographers.

  3. Prepare students to effectively communicate in the clinical education setting.

  4. Enable students to utilize appropriate critical thinking and problem solving skills in the didactic and clinical setting.

  5. Provide qualified radiographers to meet the health care needs of the community.

  6. Promote professional growth, values, and life long learning of a radiographer.

Radiological Technology Program Admission Points Ranking Sheet

Ranking Scores are Calculated as Follows:

  • 1. Academic Coursework ( 47.5 Possible Points )
    Points for grades in selected college and high school courses are awarded as follows:

    A = 95, B = 85, C = 75.  The total number is then divided by 3, and then multiplied by .5.
    In order for high school grades to be used for ranking for admission, student must take the appropriate placement tests and place into college level courses in the area.
