Radio and TV Production and Broadcasting
The Mass Communications Department offers programs for students who
intend to that cover the basic fundamentals involved in the daily
operations of major electronic media, production facilities or media
specialists in either the field of radio/audio or television/video. The
curriculum is essentially non-technical in nature centering on the
operation of equipment and facilities rather than repair or maintenance.
Specialized areas of study such as programming, production, announcing,
script, commercial and news writing are taught. Subjects specific to
individual fields such as radio format design or video directing are
covered as well. In addition, all students participate in four semesters
of laboratory class work in their field.
- Radio/audio students work as staff announcers and student managers
at WJSR-FM radio.
- Television/video students participate in producing student projects
in the Jefferson State television studio.
Jefferson State is the only college in Birmingham to offer students
these facilities to balance theoretical classroom education with
practical laboratory experience in modern digital based studios, for a
complete education.
