The Jefferson State Speech Team earned numerous honors recently during the Autumn in the Mountains Speech Tournament at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

The team competed with eight other colleges and universities in Prose Interpretation, Public Narrative Speaking, Impromptu Sales, Slam Poetry, and Improv Duo.

“Being one of few community college speech teams in the region, we often find ourselves competing with university teams who have students with much more experience,” said Speech Team Coach Dr. Janice Ralya. “I’m very proud of how our students are able to consistently bring home great results.”

“Most of our team members juggle full-time jobs and family obligations in addition to school and the responsibilities of the team,” said Ralya. “You can’t find a more committed, hard-working group of students.”

The team will head to Florida State College in Jacksonville for their next tournament on November 17. For scholarship information about the Jefferson State Speech Team, please contact Coach Dr. Janice Ralya at [email protected].
