Speech Team Wins Awards at Louisiana Tech

LatechteampicThe Jefferson State Speech Team recently competed with 26 other colleges and universities at the Southern Forensics Championship at Louisiana Tech University on January 25-27.

Atiyah Muhammad won 2nd place in Quadrathon, which made her the 2nd highest point-winner in individual events. Muhammad was also the tournament champion in Prose Interpretation and won 2nd place in Dramatic Interpretation and 5th place in Impromptu Speaking. Debaters Jason Alder and Rich Quarles also brought home awards. Debating against over 70 other students, Alder made it to double octo-finals and Quarles was a quarter-finalist in the novice division of IPDA debate.

Members of the Speech Team will travel to Bossier Parish Community College to compete in February and then will travel to Berlin, Germany in March to compete in the International Forensics Association tournament.
