Speech Team Wins Awards in Tennessee Tournament

Speech Team Wins Fall 2019 - croppedThe Jefferson State Speech and Debate Team competed recently in the 2019 Pejaver Tournament hosted by Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN and won the Bennett Strange Power Award.

The Power Award is earned by the debate team with the greatest percentage of preliminary round wins at the tournament. The team won this award with a 70 percent win ratio against 17 colleges and universities.

All five of Jefferson State’s novice debaters, Zavoun Watts, Heaven Sheppard, Nathan Wright, Daniel Davis and Kelsey Wilson, made it into elimination rounds and the team also won 1st place in Community College Sweepstakes.

In addition, Team President Heaven Sheppard was ranked 5th speaker in novice IPDA debate out of 63 debaters and won 5th place in Impromptu Speaking.
