Course Placement and Prerequisites

Course Placement Requirements

Some classes require an English or Math placement score.

Students can meet course placement requirements through:

  • Send official scores DIRECTLY from ACT or the High School Report DIRECTLY from the counselor
  • Students cannot be registered until scores are received
  • Screenshots of scores cannot be accepted

  • Offered at all four JSCC campuses
  • No cost
  • Untimed
  • No appointment; arrive during testing hours
  • Free test prep available and recommended
  • Bring photo ID and A-number

Course Prerequisite Requirements

Some courses have a course prerequisite. Most students take the course prerequisite at Jefferson State.

Students can also meet a course prerequisite requirement through:

  • Scores must be sent 
DIRECTLY from College Board to Jefferson State
  • Scores come via mail and may take two weeks or more to arrive
  • Transfer institutions may require a higher score than
Jefferson State

  • Official transcript must be sent DIRECTLY from college to Jefferson State
  • Students cannot be registered until official transcript is received (order early and select hold for final grades)
  • Students taking a prerequisite course at another college the previous semester may find the Jefferson State class they requested is full or the document deadline has passed before their transcript

  • Scores must be sent DIRECTLY from College Board to Jefferson State
  • Scores come via mail and may take two weeks or more to arrive
  • CLEP credit accepted by transfer institutions may differ

**Dual Enrollment students are NOT eligible to take the following courses

  • Any course numbered below 100 (including corequisite courses such as MTH 100 & MTH 099 and ENG 101 & ENG 099)
  • PED courses (other than PED 224)
  • HUM courses (other than HUM 298M)
