JSCC President Keith Brown (R) presents Audrey Norman with the 2025 Distinguished Retiree award during the annual Retiree Luncheon on November 6.
Audrey Norman was recently honored as Jefferson State’s 2025 Distinguished Retiree at the annual Retiree Luncheon on November 6 at the Jefferson Campus.
Norman worked in the nursing department at the Jefferson Campus and began working at Jefferson State in September 2005. She worked as a nursing lab manager from 2005-2007, and as a nursing instructor from 2007-2019.
When asked what she enjoyed most about working at Jefferson State, Norman said, “It was a joy to collaborate with coworkers who maintained high expectations because of our legal and ethical obligations to the community. This led to the joy of ‘birthing’ graduate nurses with a high NCLEX pass rate and great clinical skills.”
Norman retired from JSCC in February 2019 and has remained active by spending time with her family, Bible study, and volunteering for her church and the community.
She is the co-founder and manager of New Life Pantry, an Adventist community services center based at New Life Seventh-day Adventist Church in Fultondale. The pantry provides necessities (food, personal care and household items) and holistic information at no cost to families with a stated need. She also has served as a disaster response volunteer and a Bible teacher volunteer.
Norman’s has three pieces of advice about retirement: 1) Begin financial planning for retirement on the first day of the job or ASAP after employment, 2) Be active and give back to the community, and 3) Keep learning and sharing what you learn.
