BIRMINGHAM – The graduates of Jefferson State’s first Lineworker Program were recognized at a ceremony on Monday, March 15, at the college’s Jefferson Campus.
The initial nine-week fast-track program, which is offered in partnership with Alabama Power and other utility services, began in January. Screening and selection of candidates began in October 2020, and 123 applications were received for the inaugural class.
The graduates included:

- Gabriell Livingston
- Kimitra Marshall
- Hayes Massey
- Marquis Maze
- David Lance Moore
- David Williams
- Jeromy Williams
Graduates were in contact with companies including Alabama Power, U-TEC, Petty Line Construction, Taylor Electrical and others regarding available lineworker jobs.
The program teaches lineworker skills, OSHA 10 safety, Commercial Drivers License requirements and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The second course will begin June. The period for accepting applications for the June course has already closed, and accepted applicants will be invited to an interview and assessment day in April.
Funding for the lineworker program was provided by the Appalachian Regional Commission.
