Jefferson State Construction and Building Science student Fiona Bangoy was recently awarded the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Academic Scholarship Award. Bangoy is one of only two students to receive the award this year in Alabama.

“We are very proud of Fiona and her accomplishments, and thankful for AGC’s support of our students,” said Jefferson State Construction and Building Science Technology Program Coordinator Dr. Mike Safavi. “She is the third Jefferson State Construction Management student to receive the AGC scholarship in the past four years and that is pretty amazing.”

Fiona Bangoy AwardBangoy is an aspiring project manager and is currently in her second year of construction management at Jefferson State. She works full time at Nel Bran Glass as an assistant project manager and also serves as both the AGC Student Chapter Vice-President and the President of Jefferson State’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She hopes to inspire women and young people and show them the construction industry has many opportunities for them.

“For our students to receive three AGC scholarships in four years, it speaks to dedication of our students and the strength of our program at Jefferson State,” said Safavi. “It shows our students are well prepared and can excel in competitions with both two-year and four-year students.”
