Jefferson State hosted the “Recovery Is Here” event on September 10 to empower students and communities to take action against addiction and toward recovery.

Recovery organizations and the Treatment and Recovery committee of the Alabama Opioid Overdose and Addiction Council, in partnership with community colleges launched “Recovery Is Here” — a powerful statewide campaign mobilizing action, awareness, and support around substance use disorder (SUD) during National Recovery Month this September.

“Substance use disorder affects millions of Americans, and we are showing up with real solutions, real support, and real hope,” says Curt Lindsley, Executive Director of the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences. “This isn’t just about awareness — it’s about action. Recovery is not just possible. Recovery is here.”

Since 1989, September has marked National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate recovery, uplift those on the journey, and raise awareness about effective treatment and support. Led by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), this national movement brings together public and private organizations to spotlight the stories, services, and science
behind recovery.

Each “Recovery Is Here” event included:

– Resourcing Recovery Presentation
– Live Recovery Stories
