The latest class of graduates of Jefferson State’s Lineworker Training program was recognized at a ceremony on Monday, March 17, at the college’s Jefferson Campus.

The 10-week fast-track program is offered in partnership with Alabama Power and other utility companies.

The graduates included:

•Ja’Quarius Davis

•Bruce Garcia

•Isaiah Griffin-Sims

•Andrew Hammett

•Matthew King

Career Coach Deborah Foster told the graduates that they will bring light to their communities.

“Your decision does not end today. Today marks the beginning of your journey—not just in a career, but in a calling,” Foster said. “You are stepping into a profession that brings power and restores hope when the world goes dark.”

Tom McNeal, Workforce Development Program Manager for Alabama Power, also spoke at the ceremony. “Alabama Power is one of 22 proud partners that hire from the Pre-Apprentice Lineworker program. These partners have been extremely impressed with the quality of hires from the program,” McNeal said. “I encourage utility companies and contractors seeking quality candidates and students interested in applying for the program to contact the school.”

Arthur Agee was the instructor for the class and has been the lead instructor since the program’s inception in 2021.  Agee will be retiring from Jefferson State, and he was recognized during the program for his contributions to the college and industry.

The Lineworker program teaches lineworker skills, OSHA 10 safety, Commercial Drivers License requirements and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
