Quiz Bowl Team Places First in State Tournament, Headed to Nationals

They appear to be celebrating an achievement.Jefferson State’s College Scholars quiz bowl team achieved a major victory by placing first in the Alabama Sectional Championship Tournament.

In January, sectional championship tournaments were held throughout the country to determine eligibility for the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) Community College Championship Tournament. Jeff State went undefeated, winning 10 rounds, and continues to stand as the top ranked community college quiz bowl team in the state of Alabama, as well as one of the top teams nationwide.

The team will compete in the national championship tournament in Chicago at the end of February.

Also, team member Brian Penner was nationally recognized as NAQT’s collegiate player of the week following the sectional tournament. Brian scored an impressive 1,105 points in the competition.
