Leadership Jeff State Volunteers at Community Food Bank
Members of the Leadership Jeff State Class of 2025-26 are helping feed people in need in the area by volunteering at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.
Class members helped at the food bank on Friday, Feb. 13, and will also be on site on Friday, Feb. 27.
Aaliyah Moore-Boone, Director of Student Success at JSCC, said the 12 class members decided they wanted to focus on community outreach, and selected the Community Food Bank because of its existing partnership with Jefferson State.
Moore-Boone works with the food bank in her role with the college’s Student Success Center. When people recently were at risk of losing SNAP benefits, the food bank provided emergency food boxes for distribution at Jefferson State’s food pantry in the Student Success Center.
Leadership class members also volunteered to help distribute food boxes during Jeff State’s monthly distribution that serves both students and community members.
“Because of that and also Jeff State students and employees donating food at all four campuses, it didn’t stop what we were able to do,” Moore-Boone said.
The objectives of Leadership Jeff State are:
- Enable JSCC leaders to learn more clearly the college’s goals and strategies, while inspiring their individual contributions to its success.
- Educate leaders for the purpose of sharing accurate information in a positive manner with co-workers and the community.
- Promote individual professional development and leadership skills.
The Community Food Bank supplies millions of meals per year to more than 230 partner agencies such as food pantries, shelters, and children’s programs in 12 counties across central Alabama. CFB ensures people in need can access emergency food near where they live. Rather than duplicate services in communities, the organization partners with and enable local agencies to reach more people.
