JSCC Global Committee Hosts Humphrey Fellow from Madagascar

The Jefferson State Global Committee (Zareen Dodwad-Khan, Shay Culbertson and Valerie McCombs) hosted Humphrey Fellow Mbolatiana Razakatsara from Madagascar the week of March 30 through April 1.

Razakatsara was selected as part of the Humphreys Fellowship Program, which seeks to join scholars and educators from around the world in a collaborative spirit to promote international goodwill, idea sharing, and problem solving for an increasingly internationalized world.

Razakatsara provided a presentation at the Shelby-Hoover Campus on “The Pillars of Digital Transformation and AI Readiness” and “Madagascar: An Island Like No Other.” She shared insights on digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and the culture and economic development of Madagascar.

In addition, she met with faculty, staff, and students. A meet and greet was held at the Jefferson Campus, and she provided a presentation to Stanley Triplett’s Psychology class.  UAB Innovation Center Executive Director John-Paul Robinson provided a tour and inside look at their state-of-the-art data center that houses the Cheaha supercomputer, the fastest computer of its kind in Alabama. ACCS Regional CIO Larita Brewster also joined the tour.

Razakatsara also toured the Marshall Space Flight Center – NASA in Huntsville, and Joseph Querin (Branch Chief, Metal Processes and Manufacturing) gave insight in his role with the building and launching of Artemis II.

The Humphrey Fellowship Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education.
