Medical Laboratory Technology Program

The Associate Degree Medical Laboratory Technology Program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Successful completion of the program leads to an Associate in Applied Science Degree and eligibility for national MLT certification by such agencies as ASCP and AMT.

Medical Laboratory Technicians are important members of health-care provider teams. MLTs perform a variety of chemical and biological analyses on blood and other specimens to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The MLT graduate can choose from a variety of employment opportunities, including hospital laboratories, physicians’ offices and clinics, public health facilities, and research institutions. National surveys indicate a need for qualified medical laboratory technicians and technologists throughout the country.

Jefferson State’s MLT Program prepares students for entry into the field of laboratory medicine in six semesters at a reasonable tuition cost. The program consists of basic academic and MLT courses. MLT courses are taught both on and off campus and include a clinical practicum in one of several hospitals and reference laboratories in the area. Students may apply for admission to Jefferson State during any semester and register for general education requirements and prerequisites for the MLT Program. Admission to the professional sequence requires a grade of “C” or higher on the required general education courses and an overall “C” (2.5 GPA) or higher.

The Medical Laboratory Technology Program is accredited by: The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), 5600 N. River Road Suite 720 Rosemont, IL 60018 (773) 714-8880, Fax (773) 714-8886 [email protected]
