Sixty percent of Alabama children read below their grade level, according to the US Department of Education. The Literacy Council of West Alabama reports that, by fourth grade, 40% of children in Alabama are unable to process basic reading materials for their grade level and as a result, the same number of children will not graduate from High School.
To help, Jeff State’s Sigma Kappa Delta is holding a book drive to benefit children in the communities surrounding our campuses. New and gently used books are welcome. All books will
be donated to local libraries.
