Tom Henderson Receives JSCC’s 2017 Distinguished Retiree Award

Born in Gadsden, Tom Henderson 1Dr. Tom Henderson retired from Jefferson State after 40 years of teaching and coaching.

He served as Jefferson State’s Athletic Director and was voted Jefferson State’s “Outstanding Faculty Member” in 2000.

Henderson earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Alabama. He was inducted in the Alabama Junior College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992.

He was elected in the first Center Point mayoral election held in 2002 and re-elected to full four-year terms in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Henderson has served two terms as the president of the Metropolitan Planning Organization and two terms as the president of Jefferson County Mayor’s Association.

He is married to Betty Henderson and has a daughter, a son, and three grandchildren.
