TeamUCAThe Jefferson State Debate Team won the Big Bear Award at the University of Central Arkansas “End of Hi-BEAR-Nation” IPDA virtual debate tournament on March 13-14.

The award is based on the highest percentage of preliminary round wins at the tournament. Debaters Heaven Sheppard, Zavoun Watts, Jacob Davidson, Kylie Jordan and Blake Denney all won enough preliminary debate rounds to secure this win.

Jefferson State competed against 25 other colleges and universities from 13 different states. Congratulations to Jacob Davidson for being a quarter-finalist and ranking as 4th Novice Speaker. Congratulations also goes to Blake Denney and Kylie Jordan for being Octo-finalists in Novice IPDA. Team members Cameron Hodge, Daniel Davis, Ali Richard, Kelvin Thomas, MJ Dailey and Robbie Johnson assisted the team by helping with judging and debate research.

The team will attend the virtual IPDA National Tournament on April 9-11. For more information about the team and the requirements to earn a full-tuition scholarship, email Dr. Janice Ralya ([email protected]).
