Speech Team Earns Honors in Louisiana Tournament

The Jefferson State Speech and Debate Team competed with 24 other colleges and universities at the Eddy Shell Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, hosted by Bossier Parish Community College on February 15-17.  The team won 2nd place in Individual Event Sweepstakes and 4th place in Overall Sweepstakes.

In the individual event portion of the tournament, Atiyah Muhammad won 1st place in Dramatic Interpretation, 6th place in Impromptu Speaking and 3rd place in Individual Sweepstakes.  Jason Alder won 7th in Impromptu Speaking and Rich Quarles took home 4th place in Impromptu, 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking and 2nd in Program Oral Interpretation.

In the debate half of the tournament, Nathan Wright and Heaven Sheppard broke to octofinals in novice IPDA.  Jacob Humphries advanced to quarterfinals in the same division and ranked as 8th overall novice debate speaker out of 80 competitors.
