To meet industry needs, Jefferson State is offering two entry-level manufacturing classes for the spring 2022 semester at the college’s St. Clair-Pell City Campus.
The Lean Manufacturing and Blueprint Reading for Manufacturing classes are open to anyone who meets the requirements for enrollment, including dual enrollment high school students. Registration is open now. The courses begin on Jan. 7, 2022.
Lean Manufacturing-AUT 102 (21918) will meet on Monday and Wednesday from 7:25-8:40 a.m., and Blueprint Reading for Manufacturing-AUT 104 (21919) will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:25-8:40 a.m.
The Lean Manufacturing course covers the MSSC safety module, which is one of the modules needed to become a certified production technician Certified Production Technician 4.0 – MSSC (msscusa.org).
“These courses are foundational to manufacturing and will provide a basic knowledge needed in the industry. After completing these courses, students may move into Introduction to Robotics and Fundamentals of Industrial Hydraulics and Pneumatics,” said Deana Goodwine, Associate Dean for Technical Programs.
There are many options for an associate’s degree, certificate, or short certificate in manufacturing. Students may choose to specialize in Automotive/Automated Manufacturing, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing Systems, Welding, and others.
Jason Roberts, Director of Industry and Workforce Development at The St. Clair County Economic Development Council, reports that there is a skills gap in the region for all types of manufacturing positions.
“There are great opportunities for continued education and career advancement,” Roberts said.
