The first two $500 Marjorie Miller Rooney Nursing School Scholarships were awarded recently to Jefferson State Community College Students Candace Duck of Pell City and Curtis Harris of Springville. The scholarships are funded by the St. Clair County Democrats as part of their Community Engagement Initiative.
“Congratulations to these terrific students,” said St. Clair Democratic Party Chairman Herb Kuntz. “Jefferson State provides a wonderful training ground for students to pursue a nursing career, and both Candace and Curtis are very deserving of these scholarships.”
The St. Clair County Democrats established two nursing scholarships at Jefferson State in the name of Marjorie Miller Rooney, R.N., for the 2014 fall semester, the 2015 spring semester, and the 2015 fall semester, in the amount of $500 each.
“The scholarships are presented on the basis of need and can be used for books, equipment, fees and tuition,” said Jefferson State Nursing Instructor Dr. Cristy Daffron. “We greatly appreciate our partnership with the St. Clair Democratic Party and the very meaningful way they provide help to our students.”“Our hope is these scholarships will help deserving
St. Clair County residents pursue their dream of becoming registered nurses,” said Kuntz.
To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must be residents of St. Clair County and be accepted into the Jefferson State nursing program.
These scholarships are awarded with emphasis on the financial need of the student. To apply for the scholarships, contact Jefferson State’s Cristy Daffron at (205) 812-2722.
