Foundations for Nursing School for Pre-Nursing Students

Registration is open for Summer 2026 Foundations for Nursing Success!

Foundations for Nursing Success is a non-credit, hybrid course designed to assist pre-nursing students in preparing nursing school.

Topics covered include: Dose calculations, medical terminology, nursing ethics, medications, and test-taking skills.

Certificate received for successfully passing the course can be applied for credit on a student’s nursing program application.

Summer 2026 dates: June 1, 2026-August 4, 2026

Register for one of the following sections:

Mondays 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Tuesdays 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Cost: $100 and limited scholarships available

The course is taught in hybrid format. Students must be present online for the entire class time, with cameras on, to participate in activities.

Additionally, there are 2 on-campus days required during the semester.

Windows 11 Update

The IT Department will begin upgrading faculty and staff computers to Windows 11 starting in April and continuing through the summer.

This upgrade will improve system security, performance, and overall reliability.

Most upgrades will be delivered overnight via Windows Update and will require a system restart that may take ~45 – 60 minutes.

All users should make sure to save and close their applications at the end of each day, particularly applications like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Volunteers Needed for “Birmingham Reads” Program – May 7, 2026

Jefferson State is seeking volunteers to participate in the “Birmingham Reads” program. Participants will read to pre-K through fifth grade students at Huffman Academy on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Birmingham Reads is an annual city-wide celebration of reading held in partnership with Birmingham City Schools, Better Basics, and the Junior League. This will be Jefferson State’s 9th year to participate in the Birmingham Reads program.

Books and notes will be provided to volunteers at the event. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate.

WHEN: Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: Huffman Academy, 1212 Cheyenne Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35215

The Jefferson State Choir is singing the National Anthem at the Birmingham Barons baseball game Come join us at the ballpark, enjoy a fun evening out and support our Jefferson State Choir.

You are invited to the Spring Nurse Pinning Ceremonies at all campus sites on the following dates and times:

Jefferson Campus- on April 30, 2026 at 1PM in LWB, Room 300
Shelby Campus on May 1 at 1:00 p.m. in JMB, Room 129.
Shelby Campus Evening Program option on May 4 at 1:00 PM in JMB, Room 129
St. Clair Pell City Campus on May 5 at 1:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church in Pell City, AL

Surgical Technology Pinning Ceremony – May 6

The Surgical Technology Program will hold its Spring Pinning Ceremony on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Judy Merritt Building, Multipurpose Room.

All are invited to come and acknowledge the accomplishments of those completing the program.

Light refreshments will be served.

PTA Pinning Ceremony – May 7

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program will hold its Spring Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, May 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Judy Merritt Building, Multipurpose Room.

All are invited to come and acknowledge the accomplishments of our graduates.

Light refreshments will be served.

Fall 2026 Registration Dates

Fall 2026 registration will be available based on the following schedule:

Monday, April 27 – Students with 45 or more earned credit hours
Tuesday, April 28 – Students with 30 or more earned credit hours
Wednesday, April 29 – Students with 15 or more earned credit hours
Thursday, April 30 – All students

Note: Registration for the Summer 2026 is ongoing. Mini-Term courses will begin on Tuesday, May 12, and Regular Term and Five-Week session 1 courses will begin on Thursday, May 28. Five Week session 2 courses will begin on Monday July 6.

STEM Career Panel Discussion

REMINDER: JSCC’s Nursing Education Program requires the TEAS test as our admission exam starting with fall 2026 applications.

Our nursing program will require a minimum TEAS total score of 58 or greater.

JSCC’s Testing Office offers the TEAS test. Use the link below to register.

Please join Phi Theta Kappa and the Addiction Prevention Coalition for QPR Training.

QPR stands for: Question, Persuade, Respond.

You will learn how to both recognize the warning signs of suicide and effective ways to intervene.

Lunch will be provided. All are invited!
