Local teenagers have an opportunity to add a Customer Service certification to their resume thanks to a free course offered this summer by Jefferson State.
“Strong customer service skills open doors in every industry. This summer class is a great opportunity for teens to gain real-world experience, boost their confidence, and build the kind of communication and customer service skills that employers value,” JSCC Dean of Workforce Education Leah Bigbee said. “We’re proud to partner with the Trussville library to help young people take their first step toward a successful future.”
The free course for anyone age 16 and up is made possible by the Skills for Success Initiative through the Alabama Community College System.
The class will consist of self-paced, online theory training followed by an in-person lab day. At the completion of the lab, students will earn a certificate.
The lab will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 13 at Trussville Public Library, 201 Parkway Drive in Trussville.
“Trussville Public Library is excited to continue the partnership with Jefferson State,” said Katie Evans, Outreach, Data, and Digital Content Specialist with Trussville Public Library. “This class is another opportunity to strengthen our local workforce which has been a goal of ours over the past year.”
Attendees will learn:
- Basic characteristics of customer service
- How to take care of customer needs
- How to interact at all stages of the sale
- Related technologies and strategies for continuous improvement

“We are currently hosting this class in the high schools in our region and thought it would be a great opportunity to offer it in the summer for teenagers 16 and up looking to add industry-led training to their summer plans,” Bigbee said.
