Scholarships

Jefferson State Community College scholarships are open to students entering as freshman, currently enrolled students and to students who transfer to other colleges and universities. Either the Donor or the Student Assistance and Scholarship Committee establish the selection criteria.

High School Students – Deadline – March 1, 2017

Requirements:

  • must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher at the end of their 1st semester senior year
  • 22 or higher on their ACT
  • Applied for admission to Jefferson State for the fall 2017
  • Submit a copy of their high school transcripts showing their grades and GPA after the first semester of their senior year.

  • must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • must have completed 12 or more credit hours at Jefferson State All applicants must attach a two-page essay and one recommendation to the scholarship application.

Thomas E. & Judy M. Merritt Scholarship – Deadline – March 1, 2017

Requirements:

    1. Scholarships are awarded on yearly basis.
    2.  Shall not exceed one year.
    3. Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA after two semesters of enrollment.
    4. Completed 24 hours at Jefferson State Community College.
    5. Student must exemplify servant leadership, based on resume, essay, and 2 letters of recommendation.

Transfer Scholarships

University of Alabama Transfer Presidential Scholarship

Outgoing/Transfer Students

The University of Alabama is offering a Transfer Presidential Scholarship to be provided to (2) outstanding Jefferson State Community College transfer students for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition for four semesters, provided that the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

To be considered, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must have earned an associate’s degree from Jefferson State Community College   ( a letter must be provided from the graduation office, indicating graduation date)
  2. Complete the Jefferson State Community College Transfer Scholarship Packet, which includes the application, an essay and recommendation.
  3. You must have 3.0 GPA or higher.
  4. You must be admitted to the University of Alabama at the time the scholarship application is submitted.

A complete packet must be submitted to the Jefferson State financial aid office no later than : February 17, 2017.

UAB Presidential Scholarships

Outgoing/Transfer Students

UAB is pleased to offer two (2) UAB Presidential Scholarships to begin the 2017-2018 academic year. The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and academic related fees for two years (four semesters) and is renewable annually for two years if the student maintains a 3.0 or higher GPA.

To apply applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. The student must apply and be admitted to UAB by March 1st
  2. The student must have earned an associate’s degree at the end of the spring semester before the fall semester in which they enroll. (an official transcript must be provided, indicating graduation date)
  3. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (non-transferrable coursework will not be calculated in the GPA).
  4. The student cannot have any 4-year institution credit. (exception: courses taken while enrolled in high school)
  5. The student cannot be a former degree-seeking student from UAB.
  6. The student must be an Alabama resident.
  7. The student must be willing to assist with transfer recruitment events and efforts as a transfer ambassador for UAB. (estimate: 2-3 hours a week, event examples: tours, Community College visits, Transfer UAB Day)

Outgoing transfer scholarship application must be submitted to the financial aid office no later than:  Friday, February 24th, 2017 by 4:30pm.

Auburn UniversityEver To Conquer Scholarship

Awarded: February to April
Amount: $10,000 over two years ($5,000 per year) for incoming transfer students

Ever To Conquer Scholarships are awarded among eligible incoming Alabama residents who complete the scholarship application through AUSOM by midnight CST on February 10, 2017  (Check List).

  • Incoming transfer students must have a minimum of 30 transfer hours and a minimum 3.0 cumulative transfer GPA.
  • Priority consideration will be given to students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant by March 1 through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)*. Consideration may also be given to students who have demonstrated a strong likelihood to qualify for the Federal Pell Grant through a combination of other factors.
  • Students must be an undergraduate student pursuing a first degree.

*The FAFSA is the only form a student is required to complete to be considered for student assistance from any of the Title IV, HEA programs except for information needed to ensure the student’s eligibility for such assistance (e.g., information needed to complete verification or to demonstrate compliance with the student eligibility provisions of the HEA and the regulations). Additional information, if requested, will be listed on the student’s Tiger i Financial Aid Requirements page after the student’s FAFSA results are received. Auburn University Provost Leadership Undergraduate Scholarship (PLUS & PLUS-T)

Awarded: April
Amount: $4,000 over two years ($2,000 per year) for incoming transfer students

The Provost Leadership Undergraduate Scholarship for incoming transfer students (PLUS-T) is awarded to eligible incoming transfer students.

PLUS and PLUS-T are awarded among eligible incoming students who complete the scholarship application through AUSOM by midnight CST on February 10, write a 300-400 word essay, and provide contact information for a past or present teacher who can serve as a reference. Recipients are selected by the Provost Leadership Undergraduate Scholarship Committee. Contact the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs for more information.

  • Incoming transfer students must have a minimum of 30 transfer hours and a minimum 3.0 cumulative transfer GPA for PLUS-T.
  • Priority consideration will be given to a student who is a first generation college student, demonstrates financial need by March 1 through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)*, is an Alabama resident, and demonstrates diversity as determined by the goals of the Auburn University Strategic Diversity Plan.
  • Students must be an undergraduate student pursuing a first degree.
  • Students must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
