An Administrative Medical Assistant prep course is coming to a convenient location for residents of Trussville and surrounding areas—and scholarships are available.

“Jefferson State is excited to offer classes in the Trussville area through a new partnership with Trussville City Schools,” said Jefferson State Dean of Workforce Education Leah Bigbee. “Classes will be offered in the evening at Trussville Middle School and they are ideal for adults looking for a new career in healthcare.”

The class will be held from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Nov. 7 and running through Feb. 15, 2024. Classes will be held at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School, 5275 Trussville Clay Road, Trussville, AL 35173.

“Jefferson State is committed to providing high-demand training for healthcare careers to improve the lives of our students and the communities we serve,” said Bigbee. “Our ‘fast-track’ programs can be completed in six weeks to six months, and they provide the skills needed for immediate employment.”

Administrative Medical Assistants find career opportunities in offices of general medical and surgical hospitals, physicians, chiropractors, outpatient care centers and many other medical facilities. They are responsible for understanding automated medical equipment, patient care, and medical office protocols.

This course will provide participants the skills needed for in-demand jobs. The training will introduce participants to medical terminology, privacy and risk management, and will cover medical insurance billing and coding with emphasis placed on the use of computers in the medical office, telephone techniques, and the importance of HIPAA compliance.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be prepared for entry level positions handling front office responsibilities in a medical office setting. Participants will also be prepared to take the National Healthcareer Association Certified Medical Administrative Assistant certification exam.
