The pre-apprenticeship programs offer students hands-on technical instruction, preparing an individual to pursue paid on-the-job training with an employer in a registered apprenticeship program.
The pre-apprenticeship programs are a collaborative effort between 58 INC., the Alabama Career Center System, the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship, Central Six AlabamaWorks, the Central Alabama Partnership for Training and Employment (CAPTE), Jefferson State, and Lawson State Community College.
The manufacturing pre-apprenticeship programs will begin in August 2020 and pre-apprentices will be eligible to apply for available apprenticeships in the summer of 2021. Pathways are offered in three high-wage, high-demand manufacturing occupations: CNC Machinist, Industrial Maintenance Technician and Welder.
Pre-apprentices will attend college classes at either Jefferson State or Lawson State starting this fall and then if accepted as an apprentice, will transition to part-time coursework and paid on-the-job training at an employer next year.
Financial aid to help pay for college classes is available to those that qualify. All adults 18 years old and older are welcome to apply for the programs and no previous experience is required. To learn more and apply, visit www.centralsix.org/jobs.
