Jefferson State wants to express great appreciation for the tremendous support of Jefferson County Commissioners Joe Knight (District 4) and Lashunda Scales (District 1).
Commissioners Knight and Scales recently presented a check to Jefferson State for $75,000 to increase workforce development opportunities for Jefferson County residents and to enhance the college’s Nursing Education Program in Jefferson County.
Commissioner Knight serves district four which encompasses Gardendale, Morris, Kimberly, Warrior, County Line, Trafford, Pinson, Palmerdale, Clay, Grayson Valley, Trussville, and parts of Center Point, Irondale, Tarrant and Birmingham. Knight is an attorney who has been in private practice for twenty years. He has represented many citizens throughout Jefferson County on a variety of matters. Prior to becoming an attorney, Commissioner Knight practiced as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for many years.
Commissioner Scales is a native of Birmingham and was educated in the Birmingham City Schools system. She is a 2015-2016 Alumni of Harvard Kennedy School completing Harvard’s 21st Century Leadership and Leading Economic Growth programs; a 2016 Leadership Birmingham Graduate; and a 2005 Jefferson State Community College Graduate, with a degree in Applied Science.
