Ranked 3rd in the Nation!
The Jefferson State Debate Team competed in the “End of Hi-Bear Nation” IPDA Debate Tournament, hosted by The University of Central Arkansas on March 10-12 and won the 2nd Place “Big Bear” award. The “Big Bear” awards are given to the teams who have the highest percentage of wins in the tournament.
Team members Lisa Koshcheyeva, Alex Vanoy, Taylor Vanoy, Abby Wright, Emma Catanese, Leyton Bice and Brook McMillan participated at this last tournament of the season by debating, judging or providing research assistance.
At the conclusion of six preliminary rounds of debate, Emma Catanese made it into octofinals in the novice division. Catanese was also ranked the 3rd highest debate speaker in the novice division. In the junior varsity division, Brook McMillan broke into octofinals as well.
The JSCC Debate Team is currently ranked 3rd in the nation out of all community colleges in IPDA Debate, based on season-long points.
