The Jefferson State Debate Team won “Top Community College” at the Hub City Swing Virtual Debate Tournament, hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi on September 25-26.
This IPDA (International Public Debate Association) competition drew 171 students from 20 schools and across 10 states and was the first tournament of the season.
Kylie Jordan made it into elimination rounds in the novice division and Jacob Davidson broke into the junior varsity elimination rounds. Davidson was also ranked 6th overall debate speaker in his division.
Team members Heaven Sheppard, Cameron Hodge and Blake Denney also contributed to the team win by strong showings in preliminary rounds. Research and judging assistance were provided by Ruth Dismukes, Adrienne Lunceford, Emma Catanese, Emily Rains and Jacob Goldberg.
