Jefferson State is one of only 15 community colleges recognized for this honor and the only college or university recognized in Alabama.

“Jefferson State is a great place to work because of the investment it makes in its employees,” said Jefferson State President Keith Brown. “The college aims to enrich the lives of its employees both inside and outside the workplace.”

The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For survey is based on responses from more than 53,000 people at 253 colleges and universities. All accredited institutions in the United States with an enrollment of at least 500 were invited to participate in the survey.

“We gather as a college to communicate and learn, volunteer our time and support, and sometimes just to enjoy fun and fellowship,” said Brown. “The most important word in our title is ‘community.’ Jefferson State is a community college.”

The assessment included a questionnaire about institutional characteristics and a faculty/staff questionnaire about individuals’ evaluations of their institutions. The assessment also included an analysis of demographic data and workplace policies, including benefits, at each participating college.

Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. For more information and to view all the results of the survey, visit The Chronicle’s website at www.chronicle.com.
