The Jefferson State Debate Team competed against 21 other colleges and universities on February 25-26 in the Bossier Parish Community College Eddy Shell IPDA Debate tournament in Bossier City, LA. Participating in the tournament by debating, judging or providing research assistance were Jacob Davidson, Brook McMillan, Emma Catanese, Lisa Koshcheyeva, Alex Vanoy, Taylor Vanoy and Leyton Bice.
After seven rounds of preliminary competition, three Jeff State debaters made it into elimination rounds. Emma Catanese was a double-octo-finalist in Novice IPDA and Brook McMillan competed in octo-finals in Junior Varsity IPDA. Jacob Davidson made it into Varsity quarterfinals and was ranked the 3rd debate speaker in the Varsity division.
IPDA is an impromptu style of debate where the topics change each round and students have 30 minutes to research and prepare arguments. For more information about the JSCC Debate Team as well as scholarship qualifications, email Dr. Janice Ralya ([email protected]).
