729A9592Representatives of Jefferson State and Grand Canyon University ceremonially signed an agreement on Thursday, June 15, to ensure a seamless transition for students transferring between institutions.

The event was held at Lurleen Wallace Hall on JSCC’s Jefferson Campus.

“I think it’s going to be a wonderful and prosperous partnership,” said Dr. Anita Naramore, associate dean of nursing.

Grand Canyon’s Nursing Concurrent Enrollment Pathway allows students to take classes toward their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or Master of Science in Nursing degree while enrolled in an Associate Degree in Nursing program, such as is offered at Jefferson State.

Building on the academic foundation of the ADN program, courses are taken online concurrently during ADN coursework with clinical, practicum and immersion hours completed locally.

Jason Anthony, senior university development manager at GCU, said the pathway helps address nursing shortages.

“We know the type of stress that the healthcare system fell under during COVID, we know the shortages that we’re seeing, and we know the level of healthcare that is required right now and that’s needed more than ever,” Anthony said.
