The 8th Annual Judy M. Merritt Memorial 5K & Community EGGstravaganza was bigger and better than ever!
This year’s event was held on April 16 at Hoover’s Veterans Park with great prizes for both the 5K Run and the free 10,000 plus egg hunt for all ages (0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-14, 15-29, 30-64, 65+). This year, there was even a furry friends section for canine companions.
Runners enjoyed a low-cost 5K with great swag bags, T-shirts, and medals for winners. Participants in the EGGstravaganza enjoyed prizes galore including televisions, cash, food, and more. Free popcorn, cotton candy and Pepsi products were available, and participants hunted for eggs with tickets for free Chick-fil-A sandwiches, Steel City Pops, Bruster’s Ice Cream, Baba Java Coffee and food truck treats were also on site.
The free egg hunt was separated into age divisions so everyone could enjoy the fun, from children to seniors. Cash and other prizes were offered for the egg hunt thanks to our community partners. A DJ, inflatables, face painting and glitter tattoos, and photos with the Easter bunny were among the fun at the event.
Medals were awarded for first, second and third place top male and female overall runners and the top male and female runners in the following categories: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-plus.
