The free Safe Zone Event trains faculty and staff from high schools around the state to assist students who are being bullied because they identify as part of the LGBTQ community. In conjunction with Jefferson State Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Greater Birmingham Community Foundation LGBTQ Fund, the Magic City Acceptance Center, will provide an LGBTQ 101 and Allyship Workshop, Friday, April 7, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and a lunch will be included.

Topics include definitions, terminology, best practices for working effectively with the LGBTQ community, allyship, and a brief overview of local and national LGBTQ resources like the The Trevor Project.
