Jefferson State President Keith Brown (L) and Dr. John Stewart announce continuUM partnership.

The University of Montevallo and Jefferson State Community College announced a partnership today to give students a smoother transition from the community college to the four-year public university. The formalized program, continuUM, offers Jefferson State students guaranteed admission to UM after earning 24 transferable credit hours.

“We are extremely pleased to offer this exciting new program to Jefferson State graduates. We have seen that these students do particularly well at Montevallo, and we are excited to help Jefferson State graduates achieve their four-year degree in programs that will serve them well in career and life. We are especially appreciative to all the folks at Jeff State who have been so creative and collegial in this endeavor,” said Dr. John W. Stewart III, President of the University of Montevallo.

While Jefferson State and UM have collaborated for a long time, this transfer connection program gives Jefferson State students the opportunity to better plan for their future careers. Based on their intended area of study, students will receive pre-transfer advising at UM. Jefferson State students will also have access to the Montevallo Career Development Center to guide them through career assessment, internship resources, resume writing and interview skills.

“This partnership will be a tremendous help to Jefferson State students who are planning to continue their education at the University of Montevallo,” said Jefferson State President Keith Brown. “The agreement will provide a continuous delivery of educational opportunities and make the transition much easier for students. We are very pleased to partner with Dr. John Stewart and the University of Montevallo on this endeavor.”

Students accepted into the continuUM program are issued a Montevallo student ID, which grants them the ability to use online services including digital library resources through Carmichael Library. Jefferson State students can also use the ID to utilize the McChesney Student Activity Center workout areas and attend UM athletic and student life events.
