Both Jefferson State Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapters were recognized among the top 10 chapters in the world at PTK’s 2023 International Convention.
“With nearly 1,300 chapters in the mix, even one chapter making the top 10 would be amazing—this year, though, BOTH chapters made it,” said Liesl Harris, associate dean of transfer and general studies and PTK faculty advisor. “We are so proud of these students!”
Awards for each Jefferson State chapter of PTK earned at the International Convention include:
Beta Lambda Delta Chapter (Shelby-Hoover and Chilton-Clanton campuses)(advisors Liesl Harris and Libby Holmes)
- Distinguished Officer Team
- Distinguished College Project
- Distinguished Honors in Action Theme Award
- Distinguished Honors in Action Project
- Beta Alpha Award (Named a Distinguished Chapter for at least three years in a row)
- Fourth Finalist to the Most Distinguished Chapter in the World (placed fifth out of nearly 1,300 chapters)
Pi Pi Chapter (Jefferson and St. Clair-Pell City campuses)(advisors Matt Boehm and David McRae)
- Distinguished College Project
- Distinguished Honors in Action Theme Award
- Distinguished Honors in Action Project
- Distinguished Chapters
- Fifth Finalist to the Most Distinguished Chapter in the World (placed sixth out of nearly 1,300 chapters)
“These chapters could not succeed without the institutional support of JSCC,” Harris said. “They are already working on their 2024 projects, and it looks like the two chapters may be able to collaborate for some of their plans. The energy and enthusiasm from the students is a joy to behold.”
