Mission Statement & Purpose
The Queer Straight Alliance was founded in 2014 in response to an acute need for a safe space on campus where LGBTQ+ students could be themselves. Through QSA, we give back to our LGBTQ+ community by volunteering at local non-profits and by showing support and solidarity to our fellow peers.
QSA provides a fun, safe environment for students to talk about their lives and the challenges they face as members of and advocates for Jeff State’s growing LGBTQ+ community. The organization also provides students with knowledge about affirming resources in the Birmingham area and with opportunities to volunteer and/or participate in campus events and local non-profit organizations, like the Magic City Acceptance Center.
Our weekly meetings, which are designed to be a safe place where LGBTQ+ students and advocate for themselves
Meetings time – Wednesdays 2:30-4:00 pm in GSB 217 on the Shelby-Hoover Campus.
At these meetings, we respect everyone’s pronouns and identities while still managing to have fun!
For information about the QSA’s presence on Jeff State’s other campuses, please contact Matt Boehm, our faculty advisor, at (205) 529-4443.
