Jefferson State’s Child Development Program is pleased to be a participant in the Alabama T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship program. The TEACH Early Childhood Project is a comprehensive scholarship program linking education and compensation. The TEACH Early Childhood Project scholarships participants take college coursework leading to credentials, certificates, and degrees. Who can participate in T.E.A.C.H.?
- Child care center teachers and family home providers:
- Working in a licensed child care program
- Working a minimum of 30 hours a week
- Making less than $12 an hour
- Who have partnership sponsorship from their child care/early care and education program
- Enrolled/ready to enroll in a child development program at your local community college (Jefferson State)
- Committed to remaining employed at your present place of employment for at least one year.
Developed in North Carolina, Alabama is the 20th state to implement this professional development program. National research shows that teacher education and turnover rates affect children’s development, and low wages are often what causes teachers to leave the field of early care and education. This is a project designed to address these areas – education and wages. TEACH is a partnership of the Project, the teacher and the program working together to improve quality through early childhood education and collaboration.
