Calling All Outstanding JSCC English and Math Students!
Birmingham City Schools Partner with Jefferson State
Jefferson State has established a partnership with United Way and Birmingham City Schools to help decrease the learning achievement gap by providing them with Jefferson State students who meet the criteria to provide in-house tutoring.
Purpose: To provide high-dose tutoring for at-risk students enrolled in Birmingham City Schools (BCS) to account for lost instructional time due to COVID-19 disruptions.
Need: BCS seeks to hire 10-20 JSCC students to provide English and Math tutoring to students in grades K-10th grade.
Commitment: Tutoring will require up to 20 hours a week at a pay rate of $15 per hour. Tutors will work in small groups to provide remediation and will be employed from the fall of 2021 through May of 2022 by BCS.
When and Where: Tutoring will take place M-F between the hours of 8 a.m.– 3 p.m. (based on tutor’s availability) at an assigned BCS.
Training: Training will be provided by Birmingham City Schools on curriculum materials selected to bridge the learning gap. A curriculum coach will be placed in each school to assist all tutors as needed.
